The Outreach Committee meets the first Thursday of the month in the Parish Center, starting at 7:30 PM. The goal of the Committee is to focus on the corporal and spiritual needs of those in the surrounding area. For example, they run a Christmas Drive which assists a sister parish in Bridgeport in collecting clothing and needed gifts for those who are less fortunate. The Committee also helps Haiti Marycare by collecting clothing and pre-natal kits, which has dramatically reduced the instances of infant mortality. The Committee has also helped Project Rachael, which is a retreat held for post abortive women who need to cope with the tragedy of losing their babies. The Committee also conducts clothing drops for area shelters.

Parish Nurse Corner

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit? ...Therefore, honor God with your body.” (1Cor. 6:15-20).

During February, we begin our Lenten journey and can use this time to reflect upon our physical activity. Maybe instead of giving up something this year, add something instead. People who regularly exercise live longer and feel better. Physical activity reduces weight, the incidence of cancer, and heart disease. Walking 2 miles a few times a week significantly lowers the risk of death in senior citizens. If you are not exercising, start slowly and share your plan with others. Doing so, increases will power and having the support of others is good for you and good for them. So, if you must give up something for Lent this year, give up the couch!
